B'klyn congressman wins in contentious race on a primary night of upsets and tough triumphs

Former union official Diane Savino was leading three other candidates in the race to fill the Brooklyn/Staten Island seat of State Sen. Seymour Lachman, who is retiring.
She would face Republican Al Curtis in the general election. That promises to be a spirited contest, as much of organized labor is expected to side with Savino, but the influential health care union headed by Dennis Rivera has backed Curtis.
